As our Energy & Climate Change coordinator, you'll take Nike's leading work on energy efficiency and climate change to the next level - and help create an overall strategic and operational roadmap to reduce Nike's carbon footprint over 3 years. You'll inspire, coach and coordinate the different Nike teams working on the topic, across the value chain and globe to pull together an enterprise picture of risks & opportunities for senior leadership. You'll provide an operational perspective and advice to Nike's government affairs and sustainability mobilization teams around Nike's public and policy positions on energy & climate change. You'll be focused on the enterprise level management of Nike's current carbon footprint (total energy consumption and CO2 emissions) and ensure an adequate understanding by and be point carbon communicator to senior management of Nike's extended carbon footprint and business impact from climate change policy/legislation, carbon pricing and shifting consumer expectations and market practices. You'll have a strategic understanding of the rapidly evolving field of information systems for carbon footprint measurement. You'll partner with Nike's Sustainability performance management and IT teams to make the most appropriate IT and process investments in reporting infrastructure and develop long-term capability for full disclosure of carbon risk and opportunity. In addition, you'll partner with Nike's sustainability innovation teams to help them focus on the greatest areas of impact that innovations can have in reducing Nike's carbon footprint.
There are 3 buckets the Energy and Climate Change coordinator will be responsible for:
Measure the footprint
* Refine existing footprint assessments and create a process to continuously improve data gathering and baseline accuracy and scope (i.e. scope 1-3 emissions) throughout the entire Nike (and SGI) value chain/cycle
* Create processes and protocols (in partnership with Sustainable audit) for periodic audit and forecasts of carbon footprint data
* Work within larger Nike 'Sustainability performance management' framework and ensure integration of carbon accounting capabilities into Nike accounting / ERP systems
* Manage carbon information analyst and Nike carbon & climate change network
* Responsible for external reporting / surveys / benchmarking of carbon footprint and emissions
* Take understanding, analysis and consideration of carbon to a new level in our biz DNA - Conduct scenario planning sessions
Reduce the footprint
* Steward of Nike Inc de-carbonization strategy and Carbon steering committee: create enterprise-level and business unit specific carbon abatement strategies and business cases
* On point to advise Carbon steering committee on enterprise carbon trading, credits and offset strategies
* Coordinate a network of de-carbonization coordinators appointed from each Business unit
* Identify carbon abatement targets by Nike business units - in coordination with de-carbonization coordinators
* The business case, best practice for internal/external engagement, as well as ideas for products or services
* Create carbon abatement scorecard and dashboard for quarterly review at C-suite and Board of Directors levels as well as for each business lead
* Help identify low carbon product ideas
* Helping biz units structure their carbon reduction biz cases
Model and forecast business risk and opportunity, integrate into biz planning and decision making process
* Understand carbon marketplace/pricing & potential direct or indirect impacts etc
* Provide input into Nike Long-Term-Financial-Model and enterprise risk models from energy pricing, carbon pricing and climate change perspective
* Brief the Carbon Steering Committee with quarterly scenarios / simulations on business resilience and impact
* Assist Nike corporate business planning team to assess and integrate impact of carbon liabilities and credits into balance sheet
* Partner with Nike corporate business planning team to assess carbon cost of new capital investments and M&A / licensing due diligence
* Partner with legal on potential legal ramifications of climate change
* Partner with facilities/operations/supply chain on potential financial ramifications of climate change
* Partner with tax and insurance issues from carbon and climate change perspective
* Be aware of national/international policy trends and potential implications and advise GPA and SB&I Mobilize team on Nike's climate change advocacy strategy
Qualifications
The Climate and Energy Coordinator must have the following qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Accounting, Finance
* Must have 10+ years' experience in environmental engineering, or energy industry, or strategy / financial planning
* Must have a basic knowledge of the changing landscape of energy demand and supply challenges from a corporate perspective, and connected regulatory, financial and institutional considerations
* Must have a sound understanding of the economic, environmental and development dimensions of climate change - especially as relevant to a multinational business
* Must have experience in facilitative / coordination roles within large corporate, in developing and executing strategic and business plans, and in making strategic recommendations to C-suite audience
* Must have strong influencing, interpersonal and communication skills; tolerance for ambiguity; ability to inspire peers and support networks; and a head for numbers and a systems perspective that can see a global enterprise as a whole
